The work series comprises several objects that are presented under the fictional DD brand for luxury goods for contemporary urban dogs: gilded dog bowls and bones or designer handbags that look like lap dogs. For this series, Johanna Smiatek worked with pre-existing dog accessories, surprised by the variety and absurdity of what is available. In a process of exaggeration and embellishment, she created a fictional product sphere that ironically alludes to the world of fashion and consumption. Accordingly the interlocking Ds of Doggy Doggies play off Coco Chanel’s corporate logo. (Quote: Marc Wellmann)
